Generally, an essay proposing or arguing a solution will follow this basic outline:
I. Introduction
a. briefly describe the problem that needs to be solved
b. propose solution/thesis statement
II. Body
a. (if necessary) provide more specific details about the problem and/or history of the problem
b. provide examples regarding how and why the solution named in the thesis will solve the problem (explain how the solution will work)
c. identify and address potential problems with the solution; explain how the problems with the solution can be solved (Answer the question: Why is this solution still the best?) See the Argument Paper Assignment Sheet for help identifying weaknesses.
III. Conclusion
a. restate thesis (summarize main points of the paper)
