Instructions for Reading Sample Papers

• Tutor Comments (general): The tutor comments are geared toward pointing out key aspects of the writing sample. These comments will help guide you through each sample paper.
• Tutor Comments (inside text): The student text may be highlighted, colored, and/or include brief comments (in boldface type) to emphasize important aspects of the paper.
• Nobody's Perfect: Remember! The sample papers in this website are student papers, not "perfect" or "professional" examples. As you read the sample papers you may encounter grammatical and punctuation errors as well as writing that has content and/or organizational flaws. The goal of this site is not to present perfect papers, but rather to focus on student writers immersed in learning the writing process--writers who are still discovering as well as who have achieved success in the writing process.
• Hey, let's face it, we are not your teachers: Your professor has specific requirements and expectations for the writing assignments s/he has designed for your class. The suggestions outlined here are true for many paper requirements, but not for all. Clarify with your instructor the specific goals and expectations for each writing assignment.
