Dear All-College Honors Scholarship Committee:

Please consider me for the All-College Honors Scholarship. I have completed and enclosed the scholarship application. Three letters of recommendation will be sent directly to you from: Dr. K. Smith, Dr. S. Gongora, and Dr. F. Chin.

The scholarship description states that the committee is looking for students who excel in the classroom and in the community. I feel that I am a strong candidate because of my community leadership and my academic success. I also feel it is important to note that I have accomplished these feats while raising a family.

My extra-curricular activities provide me with numerous leadership opportunities and a chance to practice important skills vital for my career goal to become a high school science teacher. I am currently the President of the college's chemistry club as well as a weekly volunteer at the Community Nature Center. As President of the Chemistry Club, I represent all our members on the College Senate and provide direction for our club's projects. This year, for example, we organized a grade school science day where we visited an area third grade classroom and conducted a science lab. As a volunteer at the Community Nature Center, furthermore, I conduct monthly Saturday workshops about basic scientific principles. I often speak to Girl and Boy Scout troops as well as nursing home residents.

In addition to my school and community activities, I have also achieved success in academics. I have a 3.8 overall G.P.A. and a 4.0 G.P.A. in my dual major, Chemistry and Secondary Education.

Receiving this scholarship will reduce the burden of my student loans and will also allow me to continue my volunteer work. Currently my husband supports our family of two children, six and eight years old, in order to allow me to go to school full-time. Trying to raise a young family while going to school full-time is expensive, but I am confident that my education will pay off in the long run. Until then, the All-College Honors Scholarship would greatly assist my financial and academic needs.

Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,

Jane Doe
