Letter to the Editor 1

Letters to the editor are a great way to respond to articles printed in the newspaper. Be sure to keep the letters short and to the point. Also, most newspapers will not print your letter unless it is signed and you provide a phone number to confirm you wrote the letter.

Dear Editor:

I want to respond to the article written by Bob Smith in the Lifestyle section from the November 1, 1998, edition of the Daily News.

In his article "No Place to Call Home" Smith claims that the homeless in Anytown have "no place to call home, no support, and often no hope." While this is sadly true for many homeless in Anytown, Smith's statement and portrayal of available assistance for the homeless in Anytown is not accurate.

There are three active homeless shelters in Anytown: Northside location: St. Paul's Church, 1000 Pine Street; Central/Downtown location: St. Mary's Church, 312 State Street; and Southside location: Our Savior's Church, 8010 Pine Street. Each of these churches offer a hot lunch and dinner as well as beds and showers. On the coldest nights of the year volunteers search the city to encourage people to stay at the shelters.

The volunteers agree that more support is needed and hope that more organizations and churches get involved. Please call (303) 111-1111 if you would like more information about how you and your organization can help. We also want the community to know that there is some help available.

Sincerely,

John Doe
Homeless Shelter Volunteer Coordinator
