Alexandra Graham |
I'm Alexandra Graham (no relation to Mr. Bell), and I'm a Master's candidate at UCD. I also am working on my teaching licensure at Metro; I have a BA in political science and when I get done with all this education I want to teach middle school social studies. I've been a tutor at the Writing Center for a almost three years, and I love my job. I sometimes can't believe they really pay me to have fun with students. (But then I need to pay my bills, so I'm happy they do pay me) What I like best about tutoring, and this is true for OWL tutoring too, is that I get to solve problems. I like it when a student comes in and asks for help with his/her thesis statement, and after we work on it together, he/she walks away feeling like their statement says exactly what they want it to. I love that. Something that all students should know is that writing is hard because it takes so much time to find exactly the right words. Revision is key. Someone once asked me how to know when a paper is finished. My answer: "Either when the paper is due or when you are sick of looking at it." Keep that in mind as you slog through your rewrites. You will eventually end up with a document you are happy with. If not, you ran into the deadline. |
