Sheila Gentry

My name is Sheila Gentry and I began tutoring on the OWL in the spring of 2002. It seemed a natural fit, since I've been conducting a love affair with language (particularly my native English) since I began working towards my B.A. in English Literature at Boston College 15 years ago. Personal expression, both verbal and written, is something which fascinates me in it's complexity, nuances, and endless possibilities.

I nourished this love affair by teaching English as a Second Language in both Peru and Denver (on the Regis University Campus) and am now pursuing my master's in ESL. I appreciate the additional challenge which writing in a second language poses, and strive to account for it in my responses to student work.

Interacting with students on the Online Writing Lab is a very enriching experience wherein I aspire to maintain the integrity of self-expression, while facilitating awareness of the overall writing process.
